Traffic is backed up for up to 45 kilometers in the southbound direction. Neighboring communities in Austria are suffering from the diversionary traffic.

The nerves of Pentecost holidaymakers heading south will be put to a severe test this weekend.

And there's no end in sight. But the locals are also groaning. As " Heute" reports, communities bordering the Tauern Autobahn are now fearing diversionary traffic. "Today, Saturday, will be the worst day! We have to survive the weekend somehow," Kuchl's mayor, Thomas Freylinger, is quoted as saying. Some vacationers have preferred to spend the night in supermarket parking lots along an alternative route.

However, overnight parking in supermarket car parks is generally not permitted, except in certain cases, such as when it is expressly permitted or when the car park may be used outside of business hours.

Always up to date: You can find all the news about the traffic chaos here.

Walking during traffic jams is prohibited; drivers should stay close to their vehicles. Violations of the rules can result in driving bans, points on your license, and fines. Reversing or turning on the highway is prohibited.

In the event of a full road closure, the police can divert traffic. Violations can result in a fine of up to €200, two points, and a one-month driving ban. An emergency lane must always be formed between the left and the other lanes; otherwise, a fine of up to €320 may be imposed.
